Author Guidelines

Manuscript Categories

JOAPOE accepts the following types of manuscripts:

Original Research Articles
Empirical or qualitative studies that integrate philosophical analysis with educational practice, policy, curriculum, or institutional contexts.

Conceptual / Philosophical Articles
Theoretically grounded papers that develop original philosophical arguments, frameworks, or reconceptualizations with clear implications for educational praxis.

Review Articles
Critical and integrative reviews of the literature that advance philosophical understanding in applied educational contexts.

General Submission Requirements

  • All manuscripts must be submitted via the journal’s online submission system (OJS).
  • There is no word or page limit; however, authors are expected to maintain academic clarity, coherence, and relevance.
  • Submissions must align with the journal’s scope by engaging applied philosophy of education through praxis-oriented, theoretically grounded inquiry and ethical–pedagogical reflection that critically examines educational practices, institutions, curricula, or policies.

Language Policy

JOAPOE accepts manuscript submissions in both English and Turkish.

However, English is the journal’s primary language of publication.

  • Manuscripts submitted in English are reviewed and published only in English. No Turkish version is required or produced for these submissions.

  • Manuscripts submitted in Turkish may be considered for peer review. If accepted, authors are required to provide an English version of the manuscript prior to publication.

For manuscripts originally submitted in Turkish, the journal provides editorial support during translation and revision, focusing on conceptual accuracy, academic style, and coherence with the original text. This support does not replace professional translation services, and authors remain responsible for the final English version.

The Turkish version of accepted manuscripts is not published; the final, citable version of record is published in English only.

Transitional Language Note (Exception Clause)

For its inaugural issue, the Journal of Applied Philosophy of Education published selected articles in both Turkish and English as part of a transitional editorial model aimed at introducing the journal to diverse scholarly communities.

This practice was limited to the inaugural issue and does not constitute an ongoing publication policy. Beginning with subsequent issues, the journal follows its stated Language Policy, under which English is the sole language of publication, while submissions may be made in either English or Turkish.

Manuscript Preparation

Format

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, academic English. Authors are responsible for language accuracy.
  • Submit files in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • Text should be double-spaced, with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins.
  • Use a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman, 12-point).
  • Citations, references, and overall formatting must follow APA 7th Edition guidelines.
  • References and citations must be provided in plain text (not auto-generated fields) to ensure consistency during production.

Main Text

The structure of the main text may vary depending on the nature, methodology, and philosophical orientation of the manuscript. Authors are encouraged to organize their papers in a way that best serves the clarity of their argument and the coherence of their inquiry.

While no fixed structure is imposed, manuscripts may typically include sections such as:

  • Introduction
  • Theoretical and/or Philosophical Framework
  • Methodology (where applicable)
  • Findings and/or Argumentation
  • Discussion

Authors working with conceptual, philosophical, or interpretive approaches may adopt alternative structures, provided that the manuscript presents a clear line of reasoning and contributes meaningfully to applied philosophy of education.

Tables and Figures

  • Embed tables and figures within the manuscript text.
  • Use high-resolution formats.
  • Provide clear titles and explanatory notes.

Ethical Considerations

Originality and Plagiarism

  • Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • • All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin) as part of the post-acceptance editorial checks. Any ethical concerns identified at this stage may result in requests for clarification or, where necessary, withdrawal of acceptance. Manuscripts showing evidence of plagiarism will be rejected without review.

Ethical Compliance

  • Research involving human or animal participants must have appropriate ethical approval.
  • An Ethics Statement, including institutional approval details, must be provided.

AI Usage Disclosure

Authors must disclose any use of artificial intelligence tools (e.g., for writing assistance, data analysis, translation, or figure generation) in a section titled:

“AI Usage and Assistance”

  • AI tools must not replace authorship, intellectual responsibility, or scholarly judgment.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for the content.

Peer Review Process

JOAPOE uses a double-blind peer-review process.

  • All manuscripts are anonymized prior to review.
  • Review criteria include originality, philosophical rigor, relevance to educational praxis, coherence, and clarity.
  • Authors must remove all identifying information from the manuscript file.

Editorial Support Prior to Review
Original submissions may, where appropriate, receive limited editorial assistance prior to the peer review process. This support is restricted to language clarity, structural coherence, and formatting and does not involve substantive changes to the argument, data, or the manuscript's philosophical position. Such assistance does not influence the outcome of the peer review process.
